Boxed Up

For years, we have been boxed up.

We have been in a cramped, dark space wondering if this is all there is. We know You, Lord. We love You. We know You have set us free. Free from sin and death. Free to go to Heaven to be with You when we die. And at times in this box we are ready to come be with You because each day it feels a little bit more like death.

In this box we sense You saying, “You are free!” We say, “Yes Lord, I know what You have freed me from.” He says, “I realize you know what you are free FROM, but do you know what you are free TO?”

I have never thought about this. Free to… what? I guess I have learned all too well to die to self but have not learned to live for You. I am free to become who You see me to be. Free to become the person You have dreamed about. Free to live that dream.

But my life has been spent being obedient to the box. I don’t know how to live free. I am scared of it. There are too many “what ifs”.

I have been a part of a church and, though we all believe You, we are huddled and nervous. We are so scared of doing something wrong that we seem to never try anything which might be right. So, we remain as we are. Wondering what it must be like…”out there”.

Then He hands us the faith to cut ourselves out of the box and begin to really live!

As we cut open the lid, light floods in, and then we see others out there. Smiling. Happy. Out of their boxes. Strangely, this seems like the first day in heaven. In a way, it is. We assumed the voices we heard when we were in the box were just others in their own box. But we are now free to love! Free to live! Free to experience life in way we never have!

We are free to experience Him and to become the person He sees us to be.

When I am helping people find their sweet spot in ministry, I feel alive. When I am teaching with application of what God is saying, I feel alive. When I am helping a church re-think who they are and how to get done what God wants, I feel alive. As long as I feel like I am helping us all become more of who He wants us to be, I sense a smile from my Abba Father. Contact Doug

  1. For years I denied there was a box. Until I sensed Christ bidding me to exit the box. When you do so, it make other box lovers uncomfortable. Gently love them too. We all must get beyond the three hours on Sunday.

  2. It does not help me to put the box aside because I may retrieve it and put myself back into the box or allow my culture to do this for me. I choose to actually burn the box so that it no longer exists.

…or clanging cymbal. Have you ever been one of these? Haven’t we all? The point in 1 Corinthians 13 is that things done without love have no power in the kingdom. It does not mean that when we do things without love that we are worthless. It means we are not adding to the forward ...

Ingredients

We are all ingredients. We bring flavor to anything we are a part of. Sometimes we flavor things well. Sometimes we bring a bitter taste to a situation. But no matter. We are a flavor. Sometimes we may be only catalysts or a base into which flavors are added and they add the savory part. ...

A Peace of Fruit

The problem with this statement is that we only want a “piece” of the fruit of peace. We want just enough to satisfy for the moment. We do not want Him invading too much of our space. We want peace as a temporary salve and not total peace – that exists regardless of circumstances. We ...

Go to Prison

If you want to set prisoners free, you must go to prison. Christ did. He came here. He was a prisoner in his own body (freely and by design) so that He could be with us and fulfill Isaiah 61, which He said in Luke 4.  If you and I hang around people who are ...
