Veil Repair
At the cross, Jesus paid the price for our sin. He took the punishment, blame, and shame for all that we have done, will do, and are doing. He opened up a new possibility for all people who will accept that gift. A relationship with Him in which His Spirit lives inside of each of us who accept the offer.
At His death, “Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit. And behold, the curtain (veil) of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split.” Matt 27:50-51. In the past, God had met with the High Priest once a year behind that curtain. That had been the way God communicated for thousands of years. One man, chosen to go before Him, to offer the blood of bulls as an atonement. But now Jesus had offered that atonement. No bull! So, no need for the curtain anymore. No need for a holy place. The Holy One had made it possible for us to ‘become the place’ He now resides. That concept just does not sink in well with us. It is just incredible. Christ living in us. Christ, living in, us! Colossians 1:27b “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” That is how it has been since that day – for about 2,000 years.
I cannot prove it, but I would put money on this: that there were priests who immediately started repairing the veil. I’ll bet there were some priests on the following Sabbath day who began a ‘Veil Restoration Fund’. They began stitching up the veil. Putting the old system back in order.
Do we also hold on to an old system? We think the building is the church. Or we are trying to earn our way to heaven. The problem again lies in our heart. We worship the time and the place more than the One who set us free. We have forgotten that He lives in us and He is our guarantee. We are the temple – with feet. As we go, we get to take Him to all sorts of places. Where are you taking Him? Or are you working on veil repair?
